WEEK 8

Klein Bottle House

The main feature of the Klein Bottle House is the unique surface which developed by topological mathematicians. The main inspiration of this building is the Klein Bottle, the bottle is connect to each other, so that the interior and exterior cannot be consistently defined. As McBride says “There’s no beginning or end”, the circulation of the house is very special, there’s only one path in the house, like a spiral path to go to different part of the house.
Because the house is already with such amazing shape, my concept would be change the environment around it. The original environment is located in a high density sand area nearby the beach. I would change its concept into a very mysterious theme environment, which match the black color façade of the house.

Circulation is shown in this video

CHOSEN PIECE OF ARCHITECTURE

Klein Bottle House

Architect:McBride Charles Ryan

The Klein bottle is a descriptive model of a surface developed by topological mathematicians. Klein bottle, mobius strips, boy surfaces, unique surfaces that while they may be distorted remain topologically the same. I.e. a donut will remain topologically a donut if you twist and distort it, it will only change topologically if it is cut.
The surfaces that mathematicians have developed hold intrigue for architects as they hold a promise of new spatial relationships and configurations.Technology (CAD) has played an important part in all this, it is now more possible to efficiently describe more complex shapes and spaces and communicate these to the build. Previously the more orthogonal means of communication – plans, sections and elevations naturally encourage buildings which are more easily described in these terms, i.e. boxes.

INTERIOR ENVIRONMENTS AND POSTERS

Main part of the building where has a spiral stairs go down and has two platforms to allow my creature to go to different function room

Left part of the building, where the creature can have some entertainments there, the lower level allows the creature to chat with his friends or have dinner there. Theres a stairs to allow creature to go to the upper level and watch television, there's a sofa provided to let it sit in a comfort environment.
This is right part of the building, where is the creature's bedroom. There is a cavity at the top where let the sunlight from the outer environment to get into the bedroom, so it will be dark at night and bright during the daytime.

week5

Before I first start this assignment, I had looked at the little creatures made by other people, there are different kinds of creatures, and some looks like monsters, and some are even looks like furniture. I tried to use different functions in the SPORE software to modify the shape of the creature. And finally, by refining the shapes and add some decorations to it, I made my first  creature called Angelacowdy, which looks very cute and related to my fold papers; the software helps me to model things that I want into the screen, turns a thought into reality.

After I finished the creatures, I need to create an environment for the creatures. I think it is very important to fit my creatures into the environment but not only just create a random environment and put the creatures in it. So I start analyzing my creatures’ lifestyle, features and then get a clue about what type of environments I’m goanna make. Because I had be taught how to use sandbox in last semester, I used sandbox to create the environment, I created a very natural based environment, where full of ‘green effect’.

When It comes to design a building for the creatures, I did feel hard even though I had did the similar things in studio class in semester1. I did some hand drawings of my creatures and the environments that I made. When all the informations are linked together, I got the idea of what I want to make, and I finally create a building which has a similar shape of my creature that provides a comfort bedroom and very wide area for entertaining.

The architect that I chosen did a very important impact on this assignment, because the architect that I chose is Zaha Hadid, her works are very impressive, gaint and unique.

WEEK5

The poster that I chose perfectly reveals Zaha Hadid’s work through the use of various techniques.

Firstly, this poster uses different size of pictures, there is a big picture of Zaha Hadid’s completed work, and on the left hand side, there are three small pictures are displayed. Different proportion of pictures allows the audiences to define which part are more important and which part is less important. The small pictures shows different stage of the model had been made and shows how the building is build into parts.

Also, the texts in this poster uses same style which keeps a consistency for the poster and make audiences feel comfort while they are reading the posters. The posters uses bold letters for the title, which catches the audiences’ attention and get a general idea about what the paragraph will be talk about. All the texts in the poster are centered in the middle of the page, which lets the audiences to concentrated reading in a specific area but not in different separate parts, helps the readers to read more easy and give a clearly direction about where to start.
